Lack of parking spaces in office buildings, apartments, and shopping centers makes some roadsides in North Jakarta turn into illegal parking lots. As a result, traffic congestion becomes unavoidable during busy hours in the morning and afternoon.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, the locations rampant with illegal parking are Jalan Pegangsaan Dua, Jalan Boulevard Artha Raya, and Jalan Kelapa Nias Raya (Kelapa Gading Sub-District); Jalan Raya Teluk Gong, Jalan Pluit Karang Raya, Jalan Pluit Timur Raya, and Jalan Pluit Putra (Penjaringan Sub-District); as well as Jalan Kramat Jaya (Koja Sub-District). In these locations, there are many stores that do not have parking spaces.
Firman (33), resident of RT 10/07, Sukapura Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-District, admitted that he often got stuck in traffic on Jalan Pegangsaan Dua due to illegal parking. On this road, many cars belong to apartment inhabitants are parked on roadside because the apartment building does not have adequate parking spaces.

“The peak is during lunch time and dinner, because there are many restaurants here,” he said.
Responding this matter, Head of North Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department Monitoring and Control Section, Hengki Sitorus, acknowledged that illegal parking is indeed rampant in mentioned locations. But, he promised to keep holding control against illegal parkinig.
“Illegal parking is rampant due to lack of parking spaces in shopping centers as well as apartment and office buildings. We’ll continuously monitor those locations,” he stated.
